Josh’s Story

JOSH'S STORY

Josh

Josh, a troubled 16-year-old teen, was at his wits end. He was an unsuccessful and frustrated student, and had been suspended from school. His parents had also given up on him, and were exasperated and angry, causing terrible family conflict and an everwidening rift between them. He spent his days doing nothing – staying in bed till lunchtime, then roaming the streets until night fell. Of course, this soon led to unsocial behaviour, involvements with local gangs and on a steep downward spiral. Thoughts of sadness, worthlessness, committing suicide and self-harm filled his mind. Occasionally, he felt more positive, but it was then more painful to realize what he was missing in his life. Just 16 years of age, so little hope for the future….such intrusive negative thoughts…total darkness…living in an impenetrable fog….fighting in a battle field….drowning…So many unanswered questions….no emotions….zoned out….just living to survive….STOP THINKING SO MUCH…….I NEED TO CHANGE…..I’M SO CONFUSED….A new thought entered his mind and gave him a little hope.  Just one solution….

Today, Josh is a valued and an esteemed member of the local community and wider society. He holds down a very successful job as a sports trainer, earning a substantial living, thus supporting his wife and 2 kids. He also now volunteers at Kol Bonaich in his spare time, which we greatly encourage, giving our users the chance to give back to those who gave them so much. This is unbelievably inspiring to those he supports!
