We are Kol Bonaich
Kol Bonaich is a charitable organisation based in Hackney and Haringey, supporting disadvantaged and socially isolated young people aged 15–19 who face multiple and complex barriers. Many of the young people we work with experience trauma, depression, anxiety, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and are at risk of becoming—or are already—NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), with some also experiencing suicidal ideation.
A significant proportion of participants have additional needs, including ADHD or being on the autism spectrum. These young people often struggle to engage in traditional classroom settings and are unable to thrive in conventional, desk-based education, placing them at increased risk of exclusion, disengagement, and poor long-term outcomes.
NEED FOR THE PROJECT
Hackney and Haringey have some of the highest levels of youth deprivation and mental health need in London, with increasing numbers of young people experiencing school exclusion, emotional distress, and limited access to early intervention support. Young people with SEND needs such as ADHD and autism are particularly vulnerable to disengagement from education and are overrepresented in NEET statistics.
There is a clear gap in provision for structured, non-classroom-based interventions that combine physical activity, mentorship, and personal development in a way that is accessible and engaging for this cohort. Without targeted support, these young people face long-term risks including unemployment, poor mental health outcomes, and involvement in anti-social behaviour.
OUR APPROACH AND OUTCOMES
Our programme provides structured sports, mentorship, and targeted personal development opportunities designed to meet young people where they are. Through this tailored approach, we equip participants with essential life skills, including teamwork, emotional regulation, communication, and leadership, while offering consistent positive role models and a safe, supportive environment.
We aim to achieve measurable outcomes, including:
-
Improved emotional wellbeing and resilience
-
Increased engagement in education, training, or employment pathways
-
Enhanced social skills and ability to build positive relationships
-
Reduction in risk-taking and anti-social behaviours
-
Increased physical activity and adoption of healthier lifestyles
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
We use a structured monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress and ensure impact. This includes:
Baseline and follow-up assessments to measure changes in wellbeing, confidence, and engagement
Regular attendance tracking and participation data
Feedback from young people through surveys and reflective sessions
Input from parents, carers, and partner organisations where appropriate
Case studies to capture individual journeys and qualitative impact
This data enables us to continuously improve delivery, demonstrate outcomes to funders, and ensure that our support remains responsive to the needs of the young people we serve.
